Recovery

The Recovery Bureau works to maximize disaster assistance to eligible public entities, individuals, and families through various State and Federal disaster assistance programs. These programs help to rebuild lives and communities that have been impacted by a major disaster, and begin the recovery process. After being requested by the Governor, the President may sign a disaster declaration that includes both Individual and Public Assistance programs as authorized by the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

FEMA, in collaboration with federal interagency partners, created a Recovery and Resilience Resource Library to assist in navigating the numerous programs available to the United States and its territories. The resources are intended for state, local, territorial, and tribal (SLTT) governments, nonprofits, businesses, healthcare institutions, schools, individuals, and households. This tool helps users find and research federal recovery resources that would be beneficial in pre-disaster recovery planning or the wake of a disaster.
